Tralen knives are handmade one at a time. Various steels were tested for durability, toughness and hardness to fall within a low, medium and high price scale. This makes it possible for anyone to own a Tralen knife. The three steels chosen are standout steels that perform at the top of their categories. The main requirement for the steel choices in Tralen knives is the steel must be a heavy duty, workhorse steel. A blend of the right toughness and hardness is required. Tralen knives are made to be used hard. While they look good, the designs are not made for looks, they are built for function and comfort. You will not see shiny handles on a Tralen knife. Shiny handles are slippery and are not made for hard use. Tralen handles are bead blasted to give texture and grip. The torture tests the various designs have been put through is beyond impressive. I have personally seen one of these knives made with CPM-3V driven through a brick with no serious damage. It needed to be resharpened but that was the extent of the damage. Currently Reign Tactical stocks Tralen knives made in 1095, CPM-3V and CPM-4V Steels.
There is no guarantee all steel types will be in stock at any given time. We rarely, if ever, have multiples of the same knife at any given time. Generally, when a knife is listed, it is the only knife of the model that we have in stock. When it sells, we have no way of knowing if we will ever receive that specific model again. That is the nature of handmade knives. The maker makes what he wants to make and we put it up for sale. At this time, the builder is not accepting custom orders.
